Globetrotters team with Cookie Jar

The Harlem Globetrotters could have their own series for the first time in 30 years, following a deal with Cookie Jar Group. The company has signed a deal with the legendary basketball team to be its exclusive global licensing agent and developer of kids television programming — with plans to put the Ambassadors of Goodwill into a new animated series.

The series will be run through Cookie Jar Entertainment, while the licensing division will turn out other products — first targeting older fans of the team with apparel and collectibles before moving on to the younger crowd with trading cards and games.

‘This is a tremendously exciting partnership for us,’ said Harlem Globetrotters CEO Kurt Schneider in a statement, praising Cookie’s handiwork with other brands. Cookie’s other brands, in various territories, include Peanuts, Strawberry Shortcake and Ruby Gloom. Earlier this month the company closed a similar deal with U.S. cheerleading giant Varsity.

The Globetrotters starred in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon in the 1970s, and have more recently popped up on Hell’s Kitchen, John & Kate Plus 8 and The Amazing Race.
