The National Film Board has extended its partnership with Brazil, signing another three-year agreement with that country’s ministry of culture to work together on documentaries and animation.
The agreement echoes a similar pact, signed in 2006, which saw the board and Sao Paolo take part in training and expertise exchanges. Brazil recently sent two animators to train under Oscar winner Torill Kove (The Danish Poet) at the NFB, while filmmakers including Martine Chartrand (Black Soul/Âme noire) and Manon Barbeau (Les Enfants de Refus global) went south for workshops and a tour of aboriginal communities, respectively.
‘Brazil is a dynamic economic and cultural force in Latin America with increasingly important ties to Canada,’ said NFB chairman Tom Perlmutter in a statement. ‘Its rich cinematic culture, the depth of talent and the readiness to take risks make Brazil an ideal partner.’
Both sides will also work on developing new models for coproducing multi-platform projects.
