– Corus Entertainment says its fiscal 2010 profits will range between $255 million and $270 million, helped by recent cost-cutting to survive the recession. Unfortunately, those chops include Discovery Kids Canada, a digital specialty channel operated in partnership with U.S.-based Discovery Communications.
+ The third and final season of Radio-Canada’s hit show Les Invincibles swept the Prix Gémeaux. The show (by Productions Casablanca) picked up six trophies – including best dramatic series, screenplay, director for Jean-François Rivard and actress for Catherine Trudeau. Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin from Sphère Média Plus picked up five prizes including best writing in a comedy series.
+ Xavier Dolan’s I Killed My Mother is taking a run at the Oscars. The acclaimed film has been submitted for consideration to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, putting it in the very early running for the foreign-language prize along with some 96 other submissions from around the world. The final five nominees will be named by the Academy on Feb. 2, leading into the 82nd annual awards on March 7.
+ Make The Politician Work, the series from Toronto producer Gorilla Media and the CBC, has been nominated for a best observational doc/factual entertainment show award at the C21/Frapa International Format Awards – the only Canuck show to receive a nod at the ceremony.
