Former Breakthrough Entertainment distribution chief Tanya Kelen has launched a new coproduction and distribution shingle. Kelen raised her Kelen Content banner at MIPCOM with an eye to distribution or format sales of existing product, or bringing international broadcasters on board new projects she’s developing with original creators.
‘The missing gap I’ve identified with my new company is a lot of producers don’t have the [broadcaster] relationships, but have incredible content,’ says Kelen.
Kelen adds she’ll use her executive producer skills honed at Breakthrough to expand opportunities elsewhere for Canadian indie producers in coproductions and co-ventures.
‘Broadcasters want to work with established partners on shows that they’ve already worked with previously, and that they trust in the business,’ she explains.
Programming on the Kelen Content slate includes The Interns (26 x 30) from Brazilian producer Medialand, Courage in Red (13 x 30) from Ottawa-based indie producer JenCor Entertainment, Pids’ Puppets (26 x 30) from Canadian creators Mark Turowetz and David Lipsinki, and 39 one-hours of Departures, a travel/adventure series on OLN in Canada.
