CBC has lured more talent to its news division, which now includes Global TV’s Anne-Marie Mediwake.
The pubcaster said Wednesday that Mediwake, the Toronto-based anchor of Global’s supper-hour newscast, will this fall cross to Newsworld.
‘Anne-Marie is a well-respected news anchor and journalist — a powerhouse, really — and we’re delighted to welcome her to the CBC News team,’ commented CBC news chief Jennifer McGuire in a release.
A 16-year television news veteran, Mediwake’s career began in her native Alberta before she joined CTV in 2001, where she reported for Canada AM, Newsnet and CTV National News. She moved to Global in 2004. In addition to anchor duties, she traveled to tsunami-devastated Sri Lanka to produce the documentary A Journey Home.
She gave birth to triplets last year, after chronicling her pregnancy in a weekly column in the National Post.
‘I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to report on a variety of stories in my television career and I am very excited to take this experience and passion to CBC News viewers,’ added Mediwake.
CBC will reveal the results of its news overhaul on Oct. 19, going to air on Oct. 26. The network recently poached BNN’s Amanda Lang, who was followed by former cohort Kevin O’Leary, who also appears on the CBC reality Dragons’ Den.
