Simpsons scribe set for Crash

Breakthrough Films & Television has a green light from Teletoon to produce the new comedy series Crash Canyon.

The Toronto production house will produce 13 half-hours with Joel Cohen, co-executive producer on The Simpsons, and series creators Jam Filled Entertainment in Ottawa.

The series is expected to run during Teletoon’s teen-skewed primetime programming block.

‘What really excites me about this project is that we are welcoming back a great Canadian talent,’ said Teletoon president Len Cochrane, referring to Cohen, who was born in Calgary. Cohen worked as a writer and then as co-exec producer on The Simpsons from 2001. ‘Joel is a smart, funny man.’

The series follows a family, who drive off a cliff and into an inescapable canyon — where they meet other misfits who have been stuck there for years.
