Re-org at Rogers

Edward Rogers has found a new role at his late father’s media conglomerate, where he is now deputy chairman of the board.

The appointment allows Rogers ‘to play a greater role with the Board in major strategic decisions and matters of board oversight,’ said chairman Alan D. Horn, in a release. ‘We’re very pleased Edward has taken on this expanded role at the Board and look forward to his increased contribution.’

Rogers, who hails from the company’s cable division, was said to be in the running for the CEO post following his father’s death late last year, a job that ultimately went to telecom exec Nadir Mohamed. Rogers was expected to take a different, strategic role in the company, though the details have been slow to emerge.

He will also oversee ‘major strategic initiatives’ including mergers and acquisitions as EVP of a new division focused on emerging businesses and corporate development.

The appointment arrives with word of streamlining at Rogers, which is bringing its cable and wireless operations closer together. Another new branch, communications services, will be led by Rob Bruce.
