Second CFTPA nod for Hamilton

For the second year in a row, Toronto producer David Hamilton is among the finalists for the fourth annual CFTPA Feature Film Producer’s Award, which will be handed out during the Toronto International Film Festival.

Hamilton, producer of Dilip Mehta’s Cooking with Stella — set bow as a gala at the festival — joins other nominees including Peter Raymont, producer of the documentary Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould; Kevin Tierney, producer of comedy The Trotsky; Jennifer Jonas, producer of Leslie My Name is Evil; and Robin Cass, producer of High Life.

Hamilton was nominated last year for A Heaven on Earth, directed by Mehta’s sister Deepa Mehta, but lost out to Rob Merilees, who acted as jury chair this year. Also on the jury are Suzanne Girard of BBR Productions, Trailer Park Boys producer Mike Volpe, producer Don Carmody, and Corus Entertainment’s Erica Benson.

The award comes with a $10,000 cash prize, and acknowledges the vision and entrepreneurship of a Canuck producer with a home-grown feature at the fest.

‘[TIFF] is a perfect venue to pay tribute for all the hard work, dedication and persistence it takes to make a feature film in this country. We are very proud of the all of the nominees and their significant accomplishments,’ commented Merilees in a release.

The finalists were selected from a group of 25 eligible Canadian films being screened at the fest. The award will be handed out on Sept. 10.
