KinoSmith has acquired the Canadian distribution rights to four feature documentaries, including Hot Docs hit Army of One and When We Were Boys, both by Sarah Goodman. The deal revealed Wednesday also covers Pax Americana by Denis Delastrac, Enlighten Up! from Kate Churchill and Zooey & Adam, a scripted feature by Winnipeg director Sean Garrity.
Army of One follows three young Americans as they abandon their former lives to enroll in the army, portraying the vast difference between the glossy image presented to the youth and the harsh realities of military service. It won best Canadian feature documentary at Hot Docs in 2004. KinoSmith has also secured the DVD rights for the film.
Goodman’s more recent When We Were Boys examines the culture of prep schools and how young boys react to the pressure to be successful in life. The doc was filmed at Royal St. Georges private school in Toronto.
Pax Americana looks at the militarization of space, while Enlighten Up! is about yoga.
