Strada, Triptych buy Outlander

Strada Media and Triptych Media have picked up the rights to The Outlander, coming together with Xingu Films on plans to adapt the Canuck novel into a feature.

The novel by Toronto author Gil Adamson follows a young woman who, having killed her husband, flees into the wilderness to escape his vengeful brothers. It was published in 2008 by Anansi Press.

Adamson will not adapt the novel but will stay on as a creative consultant.

The book came to the attention of both Robin Cass at Triptych and Strada’s Sandra Cunningham. ‘I had read some press on it, bought it, but hadn’t read it for the longest time. But Sandra had read it and we started talking,’ says Cass.

Triptych then brought in Xingu producer Alex Francis. The companies crossed paths on a previous project, says Cass, and are currently working together on the developing drama Fallen.

Xingu is based in the U.K., led by Trudie Styler, and currently has the indie hit Moon in North American theaters through Sony Pictures Classics and Mongrel Media. Cunninghamn coproduced Fugitive Pieces in 2007, the same year Triptych made Emotional Arithmetic.

This story has been corrected. Sandra Cunningham co-produced Fugitive Pieces, but not through her Strada Media as originally reported. The Strada Films that copro’ed Fugitive is a different company based in Greece.
