KinoSmith has partnered with Hot Docs on a new line of DVDs. The distributor said Tuesday that it will next week launch The Hot Docs Collection, a joint effort that will include films seen at the festival and others chosen in consultation with its programmers.
Kino will donate a portion of the revenues to Hot Docs’ education programs, while the festival will help promote the sale of the DVDs.
The first two titles in the collection — the digital rights thinkpiece RiP: A Remix Manifesto and FLicKeR — will go on sale next Tuesday at www.kinosmith.com.
‘As anyone knows, true stories are invariably the most outrageous of all. Hot Docs’ documentaries routinely tell stories Hollywood wouldn’t touch,’ said Kino president Robin Smith in a statement.
Other titles covered in the deal include The Bodybuilder and I, Saving Luna, Prom Night in Mississippi and H2Oil.
Kino has also closed a deal with Project X Distribution to be its official DVD distributor in Canada. Project X titles include Peter Watkins’ Edvard Munch and The State I Am In by Christian Petzold.
