Velcrow Ripper’s documentary Fierce Light: When Action Meets Spirit has been acquired by TAO Cinemathek for release in Germany.
TAO holds all German-language rights to the NFB copro and is planning on releasing a German version in selected theaters there late this fall.
‘We are very happy to release a documentary that has the power to build bridges between the often separated communities of spiritual people and social-activism-groups,’ said Jörg Röttger, VP of TAO Cinemathek in a statement. Fierce Light explores the relationship between spiritualism and social activism and includes appearances by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Alice Walker and Darryl Hannah, to name a few.
Rottger negotiated the deal with Christina Rogers of the NFB. Fierce Light had its world premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival, where it won the award for best Canadian documentary. It was released in Canadian theaters in June.
