Calgary will host this year’s Gemini Awards, organizers said Thursday, taking the television awards to Alberta for the first time in November.
‘Calgary is a hotbed of film and television activity and continues to attract major productions,’ said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, in a statement. ‘We couldn’t ask for a better setting for an event that celebrates the best and brightest in Canada’s English-language television industry.’
The awards show, to be held Nov. 14, will be produced by Calgary-based Joe Media Group (The Fiddle and the Drum, Fish Out of Water) and broadcast on Global and Showcase.
The annual awards were held in Toronto last year, and have also made recent stops in Regina and B.C. The venue for the awards will be announced in the coming months, say organizers.
