Inception coming to Calgary

Christopher Nolan is reportedly set to shoot his new $200 million movie Inception in Alberta, bringing Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Caine to the province this summer.

The Calgary Sun, citing an unnamed source, says a significant portion of the Warner Bros. film will be shot in Kananaskis, an area just west of Calgary. Nolan has been scouting mountainous regions in Alberta and is said to have chosen nearby Fortress Mountain as the main location for the shoot.

The director, who is responsible for the new Batman franchise, is keeping the big-budget project under wraps. Warner describes it as a ‘contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.’

The project stands to be the biggest to shoot in Alberta since 2005’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, starring Brad Pitt. DiCaprio and Caine star, joined by Marion Cotillard (La môme) and Ellen Page. It is set to be released in July 2010.

Alberta film commissioner Jeff Brinton had no comment on the story, when reached by Playback Daily.
