The Listener made the most of its prime spot after So You Think You Can Dance, premiering to just over one million viewers on CTV, though U.S audiences were less impressed.
The Shaftesbury Films series made its two-night, two-episode bow last week on the network, starting in the Wednesday 10 p.m. spot after the popular reality show — winning the slot with 1.076 million viewers. (All numbers 2+.)
The second ep on Thursday dipped only slightly to an even one million, says CTV. The debuts also ran on Space, in early prime, drawing understandably lower numbers at between 73,000 and 77,000.
‘With the rise in popularity of genre programming in the mainstream, The Listener has presented a terrific opportunity for both Space and CTV to work together on a series that will uniquely appeal to both audiences,’ said CTV programming boss Susanne Boyce in a statement.
The rosy numbers at home were offset, however, by relatively weaker ratings in the U.S., where The Listener simulcasts on NBC. Episode one bowed to 5.25 million, according to reports, and though the overall ratings rose slightly for episode two, they sank among viewers 18-49. The premiere placed last among the four U.S. networks in that timeslot, according to Media Life.
