Voodoo takes shorts prize

The National Film Board has handed the win for its annual short film competition to Joaquin Baldwin and his animated piece Sebastian’s Voodoo.

The board on Thursday said that the CG short had won out over the nine other films that were shortlisted for the annual prize, presented at the market of the Cannes film festival. The shorts were screened on the NFB’s YouTube channel and voted on by the public over nine days.

The four-minute short follows a voodoo doll who must save himself and his fellows from being pinned to death, and is viewable online until June 21.

Baldwin, who is based in L.A., wins a semi-professional HD mini-DV camera and a computer with post-production software.
