Lorber HT Digital has acquired all U.S. rights to Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action, with plans to release the latest from filmmaker Velcrow Ripper in theaters.
The deal was negotiated Lorber’s Elizabeth Sheldon and the National Film Board’s Christina Rogers, who
earlier this year sent another of the board’s docs, Nollywood Babylon, to the New York-based distributor.
Lorber focuses on ‘transformative’ titles and is planning a limited release of Fierce Light sometime this quarter. Alive Mind will provide the title to schools and cultural institutions, while the DVD is due on shelves by the end of this year or early in 2010.
Fierce Light will premiere on Friday at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto alongside another recently announced Lorber acquisition, Intangible Asset #82. Both will be featured at myfilmblog.com, a social network for filmmakers and audiences.
‘The philosophy that guides [the Lorber] collection is ideal for a film such as mine, which explores spiritual activism and the transformation of our world one person at a time,’ said Ripper (ScaredSacred) in a statement. His film tells the stories of individuals around the globe who rally for change in a peaceful and spiritual way. It was inspired by the death of his friend, media activist Brad Will, who was killed while filming protests in Mexico.
‘Fierce Light embodies the Alive Mind label: Spiritual activism transforming our world. We are proud to be releasing this definitive film and working with Velcrow who has set the highest standard in this genre,’ said company head Richard Lorber in a statement.
