Ben Addelman’s next feature doc will take him to Alaska, following a deal signed Friday with producer David Miller and the PHI Group.
Addelman (Nollywood Babylon, Bombay Calling) will this summer shoot Kivalina vs. Exxon, pointing his camera at the tiny Alaskan village and its court battle with the oil giant and other energy companies. The village is on a small island off the Alaskan coast and is sinking into the ocean because of global warming.
Miller (Amal) will produce through his DRM Productions, with PHI’s Phoebe Greenberg and Penny Mancuso. The project marks PHI’s first feature doc, and following the recent winning streak of its short Next Floor. Addelman will again work with his Nollywood Babylon associate producer Don Lobel.
‘To have producers of this caliber as partners is awesome,’ said Addelman in a release. ‘It is a rare opportunity to be able to just focus on the creative vision when making a documentary.’
