E1 has struck a multi-picture deal with Marco Weber’s new Senator Distribution for Canadian rights to five upcoming titles including the ensemble drama The Informers, starring Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Billy Bob Thornton and Winona Ryder.
The deal was negotiated by Weber and E1’s president of filmed entertainment Patrice Théroux and SVP of worldwide acquisitions Lara Thompson.
‘This partnership is a natural fit for E1 as Senator is a fresh and dynamic new voice in U.S. distribution. Marco Weber has assembled a very impressive roster of films and we’re delighted that they have chosen E1 as their partner of choice in Canada,’ commented Théroux in a release.
Informers, which debuted at Sundance this year, follows seven interconnected stories in 1983 Los Angeles, whereby morally challenged characters cross paths in the course of a week. It will be released in the U.S. on Friday.
Among other titles in the agreement are the horrors All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and Clocktower, the drama The Greatest, starring Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon, and the psychological thriller Unthinkable, featuring Samuel L. Jackson and Carrie-Ann Moss. E1 also acquired the U.K. rights for Unthinkable.
The L.A.-based Senator was founded by Weber last year.
