New Moon goes Greene

Graham Greene has been added to the cast of New Moon, the second film in the Twilight saga, now shooting in Vancouver under director Chris Weitz.

The veteran Canuck thesp will play Quileute tribal leader Harry Clearwater, an old friend of Bella’s father Charlie. Greene is best known for his work on Dances with Wolves (1990), which earned him a best actor Academy Award nomination.

The highly anticipated sequel to Twilight, which scored roughly $380-million at the box office worldwide, also recently signed B.C. actors Cameron Bright (X-Men: The Last Stand) and newcomer Noot Seear as vampires who are part of the powerful Volturi clan.

Other newcomers to the cast include Brit actor Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), who plays Volturi leader Aro, and Dakota Fanning (The Secret Life of Bees), who plays vampire Jane.

In New Moon, Bella (Kristen Stewart) turns to her friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner) for comfort when her vampire love Edward (Robert Pattinson) abruptly leaves her. The movies are adapted from the Stephenie Meyer series of novels.

New Moon is slated for release in November through U.S. distributor Summit Entertainment, while E1 Entertainment has Canadian rights.
