Kaboose sells to Disney

Disney Online is bringing a whole new group of websites into its fold, purchasing Internet assets from Canada’s Kaboose for approximately US$18.4 million.

Kaboose, which reaches almost five million unique users a month, is a network of sites that provide parents with a variety of resources, information and a community. The flagship, kaboose.com, lets moms plan an active family life, while others including babyzone.com, parentzone.com, funschool.com, amazingmoms.com, provide tips on birthday parties, fun learning, family crafts and more.

The move is part of the Mouse House’s declared intention to further extend its presence in the kids and family online space. Disney Online, which draws more than 27.6 million unique visitors a month, is honing its focus on online moms.

Intelligence Group’s 2007 Mom Intelligence Survey found that moms ranked the Internet above TVs and cell phones as the technology product they couldn’t live without, with 80% of them going online daily and spending an average of 13 hours a week online.
