Turner buys into kiddie spies

Shaftesbury’s new tween comedy Connor Undercover is headed to U.K. airwaves early next year following a deal with Turner Broadcasting for the first season of the live-action series.

The 13 x 30 series — commissioned by Family Channel — wrapped production on its debut season late last year, exec produced by Shaftesbury’s Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie with creators John May and Suzanne Bolch of Toronto’s Heroic Film Company (Our Hero, Captain Flamingo).

The series follows a 15-year-old spy buff, played by Max Morrow, whose ordinary life is turned upside-down when the mysterious first daughter of a small island nation comes to live with his family. The show will debut on Family in early 2010.

‘We’re delighted to have acquired Connor Undercover from Shaftesbury Films. They have an excellent track record and this looks set to be yet another great series from them,’ commented Cecilia Persson, VP of programming and acquisitions at Turner. Turner outlets include the Cartoon Network, TNT and CNN.
