Watch-woman joins Iron’s latest

Ryan Phillippe, Taylor Kitsch and Watchmen‘s Malin Akerman have joined the cast of The Bang Bang Club, Daniel Iron’s copro about the closing days of white rule in South Africa.

The picture, shooting in and around Johannesburg this spring, recounts the true story of four photographers whose Pulitzer-winning work documented the harrowing end of that country’s Apartheid era.

It is a coproduction by Daniel Iron (Away from Her, Cairo Time) of Foundry Films and Lance Samuels and Adam Friedlander of the company Out of Africa.

Phillippe (Crash, Breach) and Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) will play two of the lensmen while the Toronto-bred Akerman — best known these days as the latex-clad Silk Spectre II in Watchmen — joins as their protective editor.

The picture will be directed by Steven Silver (Diameter of the Bomb, Gerrie & Louise) and distributed worldwide by E1 Entertainment.
