Teletoon okays animated game show

Marblemedia is bringing the U.K. series Skatoony to Canada, and says it will start work this spring on 26 half-hours of the partly animated game show. The Toronto shop said Thursday that it has picked up the North American format rights to the popular U.K. show, and has an order for both a French and an English version from Teletoon.

Marblemedia will shoot 13 episodes in each language, likely going to air next spring. The series, now in its third season on Cartoon Network in the U.K., pits real kids against cartoon characters in a quiz show. It is aimed at the 8-12 set.

Skatoony is more than just a television show. It has grown into a phenomenon,’ said marblemedia exec Mark Bishop. ‘Its popularity in the U.K. is astounding, which we know will transfer very well into this market.’ An accompanying website is also in the works.
