The story follows a Palestinian family’s struggle to adapt to life in the U.S. The deal was closed by Barkin and E1’s Bryan Gliserman and Charlotte Mickie.
‘It’s a gem, a wonderful example of what happens when passion and cooperation, two unlikely partners, come together,’ commented Mickie in a Friday release.
Amreeka will be released later this year.
Meanwhile, production is underway on E1 Television’s dark comedy Hung, which recently got a 10-ep order from HBO. Hung is set to begin airing in June.

It is written by Colette Burson (Coming Soon) and Dmitry Lipkin (The Riches) and exec produced by Alexander Payne (Sideways), who also directed the pilot.
