Global readies 16:9

Investigative reporter and new arrival Mary Garofalo will front Global’s new half-hour magazine series 16:9, which is set to roll out on Sunday.

A Toronto native and Emmy winner, Garofalo earned a reputation as a tenacious reporter at New York-based Fox 5 News, where she worked on its flagship series Fox 5 Investigates. She began her career in radio doing traffic reports at 1050 CHUM, and also worked as an anchor-reporter for Citytv in the early ’90s.

‘It’s great to be back, and I’m looking forward to working with the Global team. We are ready and willing to go the extra distance to get the answers the viewers want and deserve to know,’ commented Garofalo in a release.

Executive produced by Dominic Sciullo, the series will profile different people each week, looking at ordinary Canadians caught in extraordinary situations. It will be produced in-house, Garofalo working alongside other reporters from Global News and Global National.

The first episode of 16:9 will focus on accused murderer Mark Twitchell, an Edmonton-based filmmaker who caused a media frenzy with reports that his fascination with the crime drama Dexter may have inspired his alleged crime. It airs Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
