The Nelvana cartoon series Di-Gata Defenders will get the hook on Fox’s Saturday morning kids block on Dec. 28.
The move marks the second Canadian series to be cancelled on a U.S. network in as many weeks after it was acquired as part of a programming block from a third-party producer or distributor.
Fox will end its four-hour Saturday morning kids block acquired from 4Kids Entertainment, which included Di-Gata Defenders, at 8 a.m.
4Kids earlier licensed the 2D-animated action-adventure series from coproducers Nelvana and LuxAnimation, and programmed it for its Fox lineup.
Nelvana’s parent Corus Entertainment said it had no word on whether 4Kids will shift Di-Gata Defenders to the rival network CW, for which it also supplies a Saturday morning programming block.
Last week, CW dropped the CTV live-action series 4Real that was part of a Sunday night programming block supplied by distributor Media Rights Capital.
The latest Canadian series cancellations are significant because cost-conscious U.S. networks are increasingly selling time to producers and distributors like 4Kids and Media Rights that supply programming blocks in return.
