CTV is going into space with Fox TV Studios, the BBC and Germany’s ProSieben to launch the big-budget action-adventure drama Defying Gravity.
The 13 x 60 series will be showrun by James Parriott, whose credits include Grey’s Anatomy, and executive produced by Michael Edelstein of Desperate Housewives. Ron Livingston (Sex in the City) and German actress Florentine Lahme headline the drama about eight astronauts from five nations who find themselves on a six-year journey in space.
The series, also set to air on CTV’s Space, is structured as a co-venture between Omni Film Productions in Vancouver – where the drama will begin shooting Jan. 19 – and FtvS, which also produced Mental, a partnership with Fox International Channels, and Persons Unknown, a drama shot in Mexico with Televisa and RAI.
Omni’s Brian Hamilton and Michael Chechik share executive producer credits. FtvS will shop the series internationally, and is eyeing a U.S. network slot.
