MONTREAL — Quebec Liberal leader Jean Charest promised to boost funding to the film and television industry while on the campaign trail on Monday.
If elected, Charest pledged to boost SODEC’s feature film funding budget by $10 million annually. The Liberal government will also increase the provincial film labor tax credit from 29% to 35% to attract more foreign film shoots to Quebec. (See note, below.)
Charest also promised to abolish Quebec’s 7.5 % provincial sale tax on all ‘Quebec cultural products’ including CDs, DVDs, theater tickets and works of art. The goal of the measures is to stimulate employment in the cultural sector during the current ‘economic storm,’ Charest said in a statement. Quebecers go to the polls on Dec. 8.
