Rogers Cable wants to carry Fox Business Network, and has gone to the CRTC for its blessing. The cable company has asked the commission to add the fledgling news channel to its list of services that are eligible for digital distribution, prompting a call for comments from Gatineau.
The CRTC said Wednesday that it is seeking comment, in particular, on whether FBN will compete ‘totally or partially’ with Canadian pay or specialty channels. Comments are due Dec. 8.
FBN launched just over a year ago in the U.S., where it reaches some 30 million homes. Its sister channel, Fox News, arrived in Canada late in 2004 after a bitter fight with broadcasters and lobby groups over issues including its competitive threat and lack of Canadian content.
