CTV is going into space with Fox TV Studios, the BBC and Germany’s ProSieben to launch the big-budget action adventure drama Defying Gravity.
The 13 x 60 series has the pedigree CTV’s programming boss Susanne Boyce prizes. Defying Gravity will be showrun by James Parriott, whose credits include Grey’s Anatomy, and executive produced by Michael Edelstein of Desperate Housewives.
Ron Livingston (Sex in the City) and German actress Florentine Lahme headline the drama about eight astronauts from five nations who find themselves on a six-year journey in space.
The series, also set to air on CTV’s Space, is Boyce’s latest international collaboration after Flashpoint with CBS and The Listener with NBC.
The sci-fi drama is structured as a co-venture between Omni Film Productions in Vancouver, where the drama will be shot from Jan. 19, and FtvS, which also produced Mental, a partnership between Fox International Channels, and Persons Unknown, a drama shot in Mexico with Televisa and RAI.
Omni’s Brian Hamilton and Michael Chechik also share the executive producer credits.
FtvS will shop the series internationally, and is eyeing a U.S. network slot.
