Ted Rogers has temporarily given up control of his company, following admission to hospital for heart trouble. Rogers Communications announced the development in a brief statement late Friday afternoon, saying only that the 75-year-old cable baron has been admitted to hospital for an unspecified ‘existing cardiac condition.’
‘The length of Mr. Rogers’ leave will be determined by his overall health and medical progress.’ said the company.
Rogers, who is president and CEO of Rogers Communications, has temporarily handed control of the company to Alan Horn, chairman of the board of directors. Rogers has a history of heart trouble and underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 1992.
A spokesperson for the company added little to the official word. The news comes just a few days after the media conglomerate posted high third-quarter numbers on the strength of iPhone sales. Rogers’ autobiography, Relentless, was released earlier this month.
