The Canadian Film Centre and the online movie ‘festival’ at www.shortsnonstop.com have handed $1,500 to Mexican filmmaker Karen Weiss for her short Bad Head Day, declaring it the best short of the last three months.
The site and CFC been giving out cash prizes for short films once per quarter since last year, and unveiled this round’s winner on Monday following deliberation by its jury. Weiss’ animated self-portrait will also be made available through Telus wireless and VOD services and will screen at the CFC’s short film fest in June.
Nine other finalists will receive promotion and distribution from Telus, including Canucks Matt Austin for his Plus or Minus, Kim Leow for Emily and Michael Patrick O’Hara for his short Wake Up: The Morning Call. The next submission deadline is Jan. 15.
