The CRTC has set another public hearing for early in the new year, when it will review broadcasters that serve minority English- and French-speaking communities.
A public hearing on the matter is set for Jan. 13 in Gatineau, QC, following up on a request put to the commission earlier this year by the government. It will review the strengths and weaknesses of TV and radio stations that serve English-speaking communities in regions where French is the dominant language, and vice versa.
Minority language outlets include TFO, the French counterpart to TVOntario, and the CTV affiliate in Montreal.
The commission is seeking comment on topics including the availability and quality of those services and ways to broaden their reach. Deadline for comments is Nov. 20. The CRTC plans to table a report by the end of March.
