Empire Theatre is expanding again, and will add another 10 screens to its roster next year with a new multiplex near Ottawa. The country’s number-two theater chain said Wednesday it has linked with Trinity Development Group to build a new theater in Orleans, just east of the national capital, starting in the spring.
Empire is also expanding in Manitoba, where earlier this month it took full ownership of two multiplexes from previous co-owner Landmark Cinemas.
Put together, the gains add up to 24 new screens for the chain. Empire currently has 386 at 52 locations across Canada.
‘We know local residents will embrace the arrival of this great facility as it benefits everyone including local businesses in and around our facility as people make it a neighborhood destination,’ said Empire VP Dean Leland in a statement.
The new complex will seat roughly 2,100 people and be equipped with 3D-capable DLP Digital Cinema Projection and Dolby Digital Surround Sound. It is still subject to municipal approval.
