Brunton wants to Believe

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! is headed back to the airwaves through a deal with John Brunton and his Insight Production Company. The new series will be a co-venture (described as a ‘one-hour weekly ‘shockumentary”) showcasing odd findings gathered from around the world by the gang at Ripley’s.

‘That passion for discovery, that same wonder of the world’s oddities that drove Robert Ripley across 200 countries over 70 years ago, will once again be experienced as our modern day explorers comb the globe for the marvels of our time and share the extraordinary stories behind them,’ said Brunton (Canadian Idol) in a statement.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Shockingly True Stories will be the third series to bear the Ripley’s brand. Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! covered similar ground from 1982 to 1986 under host Jack Palance, and again from 1999 to 2003 with Dean Cain. Director Spike Jonze and Jim Carrey are currently attached to a biopic of the famed oddity hunter, due from Paramount in 2010.

The series will shoot on location, and follows a deal revealed last week between Insight and FremantleMedia to pool resources on series development and production.
