ITV Global Entertainment has picked up the world distribution rights for Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures. The British broadcast giant will handle the series — currently in development — in all territories except Canada, following a deal with Shaftesbury Films revealed at MIPCOM.
The one-hour drama has ‘gained considerable momentum’ said Shaftesbury chief Christina Jennings since being okayed earlier this year by The Movie Network and Movie Central. The deal follows a similar arrangement for Shaftesbury’s The Murdoch Mysteries.
‘Bloodletting promises to be a medical drama with real power and originality,’ said Noel Hedges, head of drama at ITV, in a statement.
Bloodletting, based on the Giller Award-winning novel, is in the works with go-to Shaftesbury scribe Jason Sherman (ReGenesis, Murdoch Mysteries) for TMN/MC. The novel is comprised of several short stories about the lives of doctors and the conflicts they encounter with patients and each other.
