Rogers’ Citytv has greenlit a second season of the quirky Winnipeg-shot comedy Less Than Kind, in advance of the show’s debut on Thanksgiving Monday.
The 13-ep second season will go into production after Christmas through producers Breakthrough Films & Television and Buffalo Gal Pictures.
Jamie Haggarty, EVP of television operations for Rogers Media Television, says after screening the first-season episodes, execs are certain Canadians will enjoy the show.
‘We found it fresh and funny… We are confident about a second season,’ he tells Playback Daily.
Less Than Kind stars Jesse Camacho (St. Urbain’s Horseman) as an overweight teenager trying to fit in with his dysfunctional Jewish family, which includes his self-destructive father, played by Maury Chaykin (Blindness, Entourage).
The comedy is the brainchild of Vancouver’s Marvin Kaye and Chris Sheasgreen, who created Less Than Kind from Kaye’s one-act play They Have Mayonnaise in Montreal. Mark McKinney (Robson Arms) is showrunner.
‘Citytv has been an incredible broadcast partner,’ says Ira Levy, executive producer at Breakthrough. ‘Their commitment to another season of Less Than Kind demonstrates their support of our series and Canadian programming in general.’
Less Than Kind premieres Monday at 10:30 p.m. following Curb Your Enthusiasm.
