Jays audiences up on TSN, CBC

The Toronto Blue Jays played well on CBC and TSN this year, with both casters seeing an 11% increase in viewers from the previous season, while numbers were slightly down on main Jays carrier Rogers Sportsnet.

The Jays ended their season on Sept. 28 after failing to make the post-season for the 14th consecutive time.

Sportsnet averaged 302,000 viewers over 100 games for the season, down 1% from 2007. The caster’s highest-rated game was the April 6 outing against the Boston Red Sox, which nabbed 506,000 viewers. (All numbers 2+.)

Meanwhile, TSN scored its highest numbers for a Jays game in eight years on Sept. 9 against the Chicago White Sox, when Toronto won its 10th straight game. The match grabbed 650,000 eyeballs, while TSN averaged 419,000 viewers for its 21-game schedule.

Over on CBC, which aired 24 games, the Jays fetched an average 367,000 viewers. The pubcaster boasts the highest-rated game of the season, with 668,000 tuning in for the Sept. 13 meeting between the Jays and Boston, which Toronto lost 7-5.
