Sword-swinging adventure Dragons of Black Roc has gone to post, just as Vancouver-based Reunion Pictures has closed deals with Movie Central and The Movie Network.
The four-hour miniseries, already greenlit by U.S.-based Sci-Fi Channel, stars David James Elliot (JAG) and recently shot on location in Vancouver.
‘I’m really excited about this production. Our talented cast and creative team have created a fabulous fantasy — visually compelling and epic in scope,’ says Lisa Richardson, Black Roc producer for Reunion.
Richardson says the miniseries was originally developed by another Canadian producer as a series. Reunion eventually recruited Sam Egan to pen the Black Roc screenplay using the original series bible.
The sci-fi mini portrays the distant land of Mirabilis, where a pristine setting is fueled by a powerful sorcery-grade metal known as bloodsteel. Paradise begins to suffer, however, when a warlord seeks control of all available bloodsteel in a bid to rule Mirabilis. That forces four ordinary citizen-turned-hero knights to battle the forces of darkness against a backdrop of sorcerers and dragons.
The ensemble cast includes Natassia Malthe (Skinwalkers), Christopher Jacot (Eureka) and Dru Viergever (Strange Days at Blake Holsey High).
Producer credits on the project go to Reunion’s Richardson, Matthew O’Connor and Tom Rowe. RHI Entertainment will sell the miniseries internationally. Reunion produced two earlier series for Sci-Fi, Tin Man and Earthsea, also in association with RHI. No word on when Dragons of Black Roc will go to air.
