Vancouver’s Anagram Pictures has signed a representation deal with International Creative Management for its upcoming sci-fi thriller Falling Awake. The L.A. talent agency will package and rep the film towards landing a distribution deal in the U.S. Scott Weber will direct the picture from a screenplay he co-wrote with David Jones. The film will be produced by Anagram partner Mary Anne Waterhouse.
Falling Awake posits a future where human sleep has been rendered unnecessary, with chilling consequences. Maple Pictures will distribute in Canada. Maple and Anagram are linked through Telefilm Canada’s slate development fund.
Mark Lewis’ Thaw, the first project through that deal, is now in post and is expected to be ready at the beginning of 2009. The picture has now been packaged as a coproduction between Anagram and Vancouver peer Brightlight Pictures, with Brightlight cofounders Stephen Hegyes and Shawn Williamson serving as executive producers. Anagram’s Blake Corbet will also executive produce. Waterhouse and Anagram’s Trent Carlson are producing. The film, about a killer flu released from thawing arctic ice, stars Val Kilmer and Martha MacIsaac. L.A. sales company Voltage Pictures is handling the rest of the world.
Two more features are in the works: Fido director Andrew Currie’s follow-up, The Truth About Lying, and Carlson’s comedy Shooting Blanks.
