Producer Michael Patrick (Love…And Other Reasons to Panic) and noted music video director Stephen Scott are shooting the horror/comedy Silent But Deadly this month with Kevin Smith regular Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma).

Scott, best known for directing videos for the likes of The Trews and Barenaked Ladies, makes his feature debut with the low-budget effort about a deranged serial killer.

‘We are shooting for three weeks – which is always a challenge. We’re running two cameras most of the time, not always shooting the same thing, and some being done by second unit,’ says Scott while on set at a farmhouse in Chatham, ON, a small town between London and Windsor.

‘Mick Reynolds, our DOP, has a great eye and ability to work within the constraints of an independent film,’ he adds.

The cast includes William Sadler (Roswell, The Mist), Jordan Prentice (Weirdsville) and Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show) as an overbearing director seen in a film-within-the-film subplot. Mewes plays the serial killer.

The $1.2-million feature – penned by Lori Kelly, Joel Plue, Erin Berry and Dave Pluscauskas – is privately funded and produced by Michael Patrick Entertainment. Patrick exec produces with Mike Carriere. Mike Pugh is associate producer.

No distributor is attached. ‘We’re in negotiations with a few different folks,’ says Patrick.

Shooting wraps in late August. Post-production in Toronto will include special effects by Intelligent Creatures, editing by Joe Weadick of Producers’ Choice and sound editing by Doug Wright at Village West Productions.
