YTV’s The Next Star is headed to MIPCOM, where Toronto’s Tricon Films and Television plans to debut the format rights to the kids talent series, the company announced Friday.
The 13 x 60 series, which premiered last month on YTV, seeks out talented Canucks aged 15 or younger for a chance at a career in show business, whether in music, theater or acting. The contestants are whittled down to six, who participate in televised mentoring sessions to determine The Next Star.
‘This is a unique format offering talented youngsters top-notch support and training to give them the very best shot at the big time. It’s an adaptable concept; The Next Star could see hopefuls mentored in a variety of industries,’ commented Tricon VP of distribution and development Carrie Mudd in a release.
The Next Star is Tricon’s first foray into kids programming.
