CBC added some color to its team of Hockey Night in Canada commentators today, unveiling Mike Milbury as the broadcast’s newest analyst.
Milbury, the former player, coach and GM is known as one of the game’s most outspoken and entertaining personalities. He spent last season as an analyst for TSN’s national hockey broadcasts and for NBC in the U.S.
‘We’re very pleased to welcome Mike to our talented broadcast team,’ HNIC exec producer Sherali Najak said in a statement. ‘His experience as an NHL player and executive is reflected in an entertaining on-air style. We look forward to his honest opinions and knowledge on what’s happening around the NHL on a weekly basis.’
He will be a regular on the second intermission feature The Hot Stove, and he will also make appearances on Hockey Night in Canada Radio and contribute a weekly column to cbcsports.ca.
Milbury earned his nickname ‘Mad Mike’ for his often unpredictable trades as GM of the New York Islanders. Other career highlights include a 1979 brawl when he played for the Boston Bruins in which he beat a spectator with his own shoe.
