HDTV aims for Europe

High Fidelity HDTV has inked a deal with the Cameron Thomson Group to distribute its nature channel Oasis HD to European markets.

CTG, which has offices in Toronto, London and Milan, ‘understands the appeal of Oasis HD and the complexity and subtleties of the European market,’ said HDTV partner Ken Murphy in a statement. ‘CTG’s expertise is exactly what is needed to bring our channel to the European audience.’

The move, revealed Monday, is part of a larger push to get HD broadcasters a larger presence overseas.

Meanwhile, the company has named Michael A. McLaughlin as its head of sales and sponsorship. McLaughlin will also become a part owner of the business and joins the High Fidelity HDTV management committee.

McLaughlin, who was an EVP at Omnicom Media Group for the last eight years, will head up all aspects of sales and sponsorship for HDTV.

‘We are thrilled to have Michael on our team,’ said Murphy. ‘He is one of the most colourful and effective personalities in Canadian marketing, and his energy is infectious. [With] his vast experience of 23 years and unique expertise in Canadian television, I believe he will deliver growth and new audiences to our business.’
