CBC has named more than 50 hosts and analysts for its upcoming coverage of the Beijing Olympics.
Pulling in the top coverage gigs are the usual news and sports faces. Peter Mansbridge will host the opening ceremonies along with Hockey Night in Canada stalwart Ron MacLean, who will also host the nightly primetime offering Olympic Prime.
Ian Hanomansing will lead the late shift for the West Coast, hosting Olympic Prime Pacific, while Olympics vet Scott Oake will report live from the Beijing stadium for the marquee track and athletics events.
In addition to the familiar faces, a host of former Olympians will be joining the broadcast crew for analysis of the top events including former gold medallist sprinter Donavan Bailey and swimmer Mark Tewkesbury, covering track and aquatics, respectively.
Other notable analysts include hockey hero Hayley Wickenheiser (covering softball), former Canadian soccer team captain Jason De Vos, Toronto Raptors assistant coach Jay Triano, and summer and winter games medallist Clara Hughes (covering cycling).
CBC’s Olympic coverage kicks off Aug. 8 and runs until the 24th. The games will be CBC’s last until at least 2014, as CTVglobemedia has the rights for both Vancouver 2010 and London 2012.
