More names join Just Comedy

Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright, Fremantle exec Rob Clark and Ask a Ninja creators Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine have joined the lineup of creatives and execs on the roster at Just Comedy, the two-day conference that makes its bow next month alongside Just For Laughs.

‘Although coined ‘the business of funny,’ we’re serious about our commitment to bring the industry’s biggest names to our inaugural Just Comedy Conference,’ said Deborah Day, executive producer of the conference, in a statement. ‘Just Comedy is poised to create buzz and brand itself as the comedy industry must attend event.’

Wright, who also directed the recent Brit com Hot Fuzz, will join Juno director Jason Reitman in a one-hour conversation about their approach to feature film and their vision for the future of comedy, while Clark, SEVP of entertainment and production, worldwide entertainment at FremantleMedia, will deliver a keynote address on comedy formatting. Nichols and Sarine — creators of the hit comedy www.askaninja.com — will be among the other speakers.

Other Just Comedy highlights include a father-and-son interview session between Reitman and his father, Ivan Reitman, and a presentation of Comedy Person of the Year to filmmaker Judd Apatow, cheering his recent blockbusters such as Superbad and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Just Comedy is co-organized by Just for Laughs and Achilles Media and runs July 17-18 in Montreal.
