• Seville Pictures closed a series of deals at Cannes for titles including Waltz with Bashir and Radu Mihaileanu’s Le Concert. Other titles acquired include Je l’aimais, Les plages d’Agnes, Mademoiselle Chambon, Le petit Nicolas and Amazonie la planète verte.

• Peace Arch Entertainment returned from Cannes with more than 30 deals in place, including sales of the recent drama Babysitters to Alliance Entertainment in Singapore, Videovision Entertainment in South Africa and Tandem in Bulgaria. Tandem also took The Last Hit Man, the miniseries Guns, the MOW Luna: Spirit of the Whale and Animal 2. Peace Arch also bought the North American rights to What We Do Is Secret, a punk rock biopic starring Shane West and Bijou Phillips.

• Nelvana Enterprises has signed a host of licensing deals for Ruby Gloom. New licensees include Sony Music Entertainment, for a CD single in Japan, and Australia’s Designworks, which has designed a line of T-shirts that will retail in more than 240 youth apparel stores starting in July, as well as Gloom¬-inspired bedding. Apparel and accessory deals will also bring the show’s merchandise to Mexico, Spain and Portugal, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

• 9 Story Entertainment has teamed with The Licensing Shop to provide merchandise for its shows. Featured in the worldwide agreement are the kids shows Almost Naked Animals and Best Ed, with toys, video games and other product tie-ins set to be unveiled later this year.

• CCI Entertainment has signed on to develop and produce content and products based on the Weekly Reader franchise. The exclusive agreement will see CCI produce new educational material for TV, DVD and online distribution. Weekly Reader is currently used in more than 300,000 classrooms in the U.S.
