For actress Sofia Milos, there was no better person to deliver the news that she would receive the Banff Television Award of Excellence this year than Peter Raymont, her executive producer on the CBC series The Border.
‘It was just lovely,’ she told Playback, while promoting the second season of the action-drama at the Ceeb upfront presentation. The award, to be presented on June 9, recognizes achievement through a body of work over an extended period of time.
Milos plays a Homeland Security official on The Border, produced by Raymont’s White Pine Pictures, though she’s best known for her work as Det. Yelina Salas on CSI: Miami. She’s also acted in hit TV shows including The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Friends and Mad About You.
The award has given Milos time to stop and reflect on the 200 on-air hours she has clocked in her TV career thus far.
‘When you work so many hours, you don’t get to stop and acknowledge and appreciate what you’ve done,’ she says.
Milos is especially humbled to be following in the footsteps of previous recipients David Chase and Carol Mendelsohn, her producers on The Sopranos and CSI: Miami, respectively.
‘These are people who gave me opportunities…getting the award is my way of saying thank you to them as well,’ she says.
