Countdown to Banff: Blueprint nabs producer prize

The Banff World Television Festival has handed one of its top honors to Blueprint Entertainment, tapping the L.A. and Toronto shop for its Innovative Producer Award. The annual award recognizes ‘entrepreneurial excellence and achievements’ of TV production companies in Canada.

It will be presented to Blueprint chairman and CEO John Morayniss and president Noreen Halpern at the festival’s awards luncheon on June 9. Recent programs turned out by Blueprint include Kenny vs. Spenny and Whistler.

‘The team at Blueprint Entertainment is committed to producing innovative, unique programming, and this award recognizes the success they have had in this industry,’ noted Kevin Beggs, president of television programming and production at Lionsgate, which co-sponsors the award with Maple Pictures. ‘They are a growing vibrant force in Canadian television, and we wish them every success in the future.’

The award went to marblemedia last year. Previous winners also include Michael Geddes of Lone Eagle Entertainment and Allan Magee (The Smart Woman Survival Guide).
